挪移調度的改編特色
《西樓記》是晚明文人袁于令傳奇的名作之一,原著長達四十折。本劇精選其中〈樓會〉、〈拆書〉、〈空泊〉、〈錯夢〉四折,作為敘事的焦點。原著中穆素徽誤寄無字情書,原只是情節的鋪墊而已,其實一段漫長而曲折的苦戀才剛要展開。《情書》拿這個環節作主軸,找到了詮釋愛情的新角度,又透過文本的挪移調度,刻畫了這個獨特的主題──原本穆素徽因誤寄白紙 〈 緘誤 〉,才等不著于叔夜(空泊),只好黯然離去,後來才有于叔夜的〈錯夢〉;在《情書》中,則是將〈空泊〉 和〈錯夢〉的時空交錯對舉,最後揭露〈 緘誤 〉 的真相,讓觀眾對這對小情人的錯過,扼腕不已。
Portrait of Love is a story adapted from writer Yuan Yu-ling's “West House Story” from late Ming Dynasty. The 4 acts—“Meeting at the West House”, “Opening the Letter”, “Waiting in the boat”, and “Dream Misled”—tell a short-lived love, like a meteor streaking through the night sky, short but bright! Artist Shy Gong got inspired by the truck and Mongolian tent and designed a “Love Camion” for the play. The setting of the house, the studio and the boat cabin are all shown and switched in this camion. The absurd dream in which the puppet and personage appear on the same stage seems like a farce but vividly illustrates the anxiety and powerlessness of the characters, which is both intriguing and sad.
